If not now – When?

Travels around the world (with Beth and Chris)

Archive for the month “June, 2014”

Jetlag, omelets, French wine and umbrellas….

And not necessarily in that order.

We have landed in Paris and have spent the last day or two glazed over with the punchy weariness that only jet lag brings. But it is fine because… well that needs no explanation.

“Mmmm mmmmm mmmm” I hear my mother uttering over and over and I quite agree….omelets, crepes, flaming crème brulee, Bordeaux wine, chocolate croissants, strong coffee au lait. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. We spent the rainy late morning at Musee de l’Orangerie, a small impressionist museum stocked with Cezanne, Picasso, Renior , and Monet works to name a few.  My favorite part were the two rooms of  gigantic Monet murals that he toiled over from 1914 until his death in 1926; they were meant to serve as a peaceful and contemplative refuge,  housed in elliptical rooms where the museum guard walked through shushing the crowd. Hop-on, hop-off bus was as easy way to move through the streets of Paris glimpsing the highlights between raindrops.

Teaser alert: tomorrow we schlep our mountainous pile of luggage to the metro, and then on to the high speed train – which will deliver us to the boat part of this journey. We begin the “river boat cruise” in Migennes with Cap’n Chris at the helm and first mates Beth and Baba to make our way on the L’Yonne River and Canal du Nivernais.

In the meantime, we are running the 6 flights of stairs to our hotel rooms  (typically either Beth posing the cardio challenge or running it solo racing the antiquated lift occupied by Chris and Baba) whenever possible to stave off the lb’s forming around the waistline….

Check out the pictures we’ve uploaded in the Canal du Nivernais gallery.

More soon.

Inhale deeply. Exhale slowly.

Pay attention in the present moment.

Appreciate Mother Earth.

It’s ok to cry but it feels better to laugh.

Find the positive.

Choose love and gratitude.

Experience life.
